An intense devotional practice of walking 100 round trips between a stone marker and the shrine while praying.

Ohyakudo-mairi is the practice of walking 100 round trips between the hyakudo-ishi and the worship hall, repeating one's prayer with each circuit. Reserved for the most urgent and heartfelt petitions — healing, fertility, family safety — the physical commitment demonstrates the depth of the supplicant's sincerity.

Traditionally performed barefoot, most shrines now accept shoes. Worshippers count their circuits using 100 small stones or paper twists. Customarily performed in early morning or late evening hours to avoid being observed, the practice typically takes one to two hours. The sustained concentration on prayer during this time becomes a meditative experience — an act of faith in its most raw and earnest form.
